Leslie and Mike met while both stationed in North Carolina in the Marine Corps. Almost immediately after a successful first date Mike had to leave for Germany for a month and a half, leading Leslie's friends to believe he was made up in an attempt for Leslie to avoid going on any more dates, and landing Mike the nickname "Germany Mike".
But Mike did return and he and Leslie quickly reconnected. A few months later, they were deployed together to the Middle East aboard the USS Kearsage for seven months. A time Leslie explains she's happy to have the memories of but would never do again, because deploying together was even tougher than being apart. There was, however, a silver lining to this time. The summer after returning home, Leslie found out she was pregnant. A few months later Mike proposed to Leslie by hiding her ring in their Christmas tree. Surrounded by their closest friends he popped the question, and she of course said yes. That following January their adorable baby boy Henry was born.
I was honored to photograph their wedding this past July.
When I began writing this post I had asked Leslie what the most memorable moment of the day was and I wanted to share her response (which, yes, did make me tear up), "...in church during the ceremony when Henry started his baby babbling. Mike and I turned at the same time to smile at him and nothing else had felt so right in the world. We were in church being united by God in front of our family and friends with our baby there cheering us on. You captured that moment and it's so special to us to relive it over and over again". Here is that moment...
